Online Summer School

Due to the recent health crisis, we shifted our program to online classes. We are using interactive software which allows students and teachers to communicate online much as they would in a live classroom setting. Students can see their teacher and classmates during the lesson, write on the board, interact with each other and ask questions. We are very excited that learning is continuing, and we invite you to join us for classes this summer. Please check the list of our programs and feel free to contact us if you have any questions and set up a free online placement test.

Studio’s approach and curriculum work in the online setting

Asking “why” encourages students to dig deeper, and focus on the underlying principles. We encourage group discussions, through which students develop critical thinking skills. Together, students discover the answers, rather than hear the solution from the teacher. With our current online classes, we have kept our group structure adding to the social interactions that our children miss so much these days.

We include the core curriculum topics as well as go beyond. We firmly believe that there is more to math than counting! We include a variety of logic and unusual problems, as well as riddles and puzzles. In addition, we use a wide range of manipulatives, construction sets, geometrical games and mosaics to help our students intuitively understand and visualize mathematical concepts. Strategy and mathematical games are a perfect learning tool, and can make difficult concepts come to life. That’s why even seemingly dry/boring subject become exciting in our classroom!

Summer Classes:

Six weeks: June 22 – July 31. All grades refer to the student’s grade in the Fall.

Let’s play math!

Grades K – 1. New students only.
Grade K. 2 classes per week (10 classes), 60 min.
Monday 3:30 & Wednesday 1:30 or
Tuesday & Thursday 3:30.
Tuition – $350.
Grade 1. 2 classes per week (10 classes), 75 min.
Monday & Thursday 11:00 (FULL)
or Tuesday & Thursday 1:00.
Tuition – $400.

This program will be a 6 week program, with classes happening twice a week. We include the core curriculum topics as well as go beyond. We firmly believe that there is more to math than counting! We include a variety of logic and unusual problems, as well as riddles and puzzles.

Though we are currently in an online format, we still incorporate manipulatives, games, puzzles and riddles into our classes by either using our cameras or using online resources to continue expanding our younger students’ curiosity and keep them engaged during these unusual times.

Out of the box thinking.
Beginner Math Circle.
Grades 2–3.

Current and new students.
1 class per week, 75 min.
Grade 2. Monday 1:00, or Wednesday 3:00, or Thursday 11:00.
Grade 3. Monday 11:00, or Wednesday 1:00, or Thursday 1:00.

Tuition – $240.
Placement test required.

After creating materials for both, we have come to the conclusion that since the courses are so similar, we will just be combining the two programs. We apologize for those of you who wanted to be able to attend both, this will just dissolve any repetition. This also gives you more days and times to choose from.

This class will introduce students to topics that go far beyond school curriculum. Our goal is to teach students to think outside the box, and apply non-standard and non-linear solutions to a diverse set of problems. Our primary goal is to develop students’ reasoning and creative thinking abilities and to explore mathematics outside school arithmetic. We’ll be exploring different types of logic problems, rebus puzzles, linguistics riddles, mind benders, strategy games and projects in applied geometry.

Often, students are taught that math is all about counting. We want to show students that some of the most exciting topics lie outside boring counting drills. It’s going to be a fun class because finding creative solutions is an intrinsically satisfying experience. We invite you to look at math from a new perspective!

Out of the box thinking.

Grades 4 – 5.
Current and new students.

1 class per week, 90 min.
Tuesday 11:00 or 3:00.
Tuition – $290.

We invite the strongest students to participate in our Math Circle. The program is for all students that love a challenge.

The program will ignite an advanced, unusual, non-standard, and creative approach to mathematical thinking. Math Circle is designed to promote enthusiasm, a positive attitude towards mathematics, and to stimulate interest in the deeper study of math.

Our program combines problem-solving methods, hands-on math, logical reasoning, and engaging discussions. Our students will learn how to approach unusual and competition problems; they will learn about cryptography and ciphers, combinatorics, fractals, number puzzles and much more.

The topics for the 6–7 grades will include elements of the graph theory, elements of combinatorics, binary numbers and much more. We will also work on basic pre-algebra skills to prepare students for success in their middle school math classes. Engaging in friendly math competitions is an essential part of the class.

This class requires advanced mental math skills, and a strong math foundation.
Homework is assigned after each class.

Math Booster

Next year preparation classes.
Grades 3 – 4. 2 classes per week, 75 min. Tuition – $480.
Grade 3. Tuesday & Thursday 1:00.
Grade 4. Monday & Wednesday 1:00.

Grades 5 – 6. 2 classes per week, 90 min. Tuition – $580.
Grade 5. Monday & Wednesday 3:00.
Grade 6. Tuesday & Thursday 3:00.

Placement test required.

This course is for students who need to fill in the gaps left from this year’s math. We aim to reinforce their knowledge and prepare them for the upcoming school year. This may be taken as a stand-alone course or as preparation for the next year at the studio. This class is for any students, no matter whether or not you plan on joining the Studio in September. If you plan on joining the Studio in the Fall, an additional evaluation will be required at the end of the course.
Algebra and Geometry review using SAT/ACT types problems

Grade 8. Studio’s students only.
1 class per week, 90 min.
Wednesday or Thursday 1:00.
Tuition – $300.

This class is based on the studio’s 7th grade curriculum. We will be using SAT and ACT problems to deepen students’ understanding of all key topics of Algebra and Geometry covered in the 7th grade and expand their problem solving skills. The topics will include number theory, divisibility laws, using equations in word problems, functions and graphs, absolute value, quadratics, radicals, and more.

Geometry (high school preparation)

Grades 9 or 10.
2 classes per week, 2 hours.
Tuesday & Thursday 2:00.
Tuition – $720.

Placement test required.

We want to offer students a good head start for their high school math classes. Students taking this class will learn geometry concepts and theorems. This is very important for students taking geometry in high school next year.

They will learn proofs and the laws of formal logic. Topics covered include: congruence and similarity of triangles, properties of quadrilaterals, right triangles, circles, sectors, ratio and proportion in geometry, solid figures, volume, surface areas, and corresponding proofs.

Coding and Algorithms with Python

Grades 6–8.
2 classes per week, 90 min.
Monday & Thursday 11:00.
Tuition – $480.

Placement test required.

This fast-paced class is for motivated students who are new to Python programming or have limited coding experience. The course introduces fundamental programming concepts and illustrates them with a variety of graphical and algorithmic projects. By the end of the session, students will gain a lot of practice with the flow of control, variables, conditionals, loops, functions, strings, and graphical turtle programming. The teaching approach emphasizes computational thinking and quality coding practices.
